Working with Vulnerable Teenagers and Adults using the Interactive Drama Practices of Augusto Boal's 'Rehearsal for Reality'.
StoryWorks successfully received nearly £9,000 from the ACESW for funding to run ten 2 - 3 hour sessions with 10 different partners in Cornwall who work with vulnerable teenagers and adults in a variety of contexts.
StoryWorks designed with the leaders of each group a bespoke issue-based project for each group to explore issues relevant to them using the practices of Augusto Boal's Forum Theatre and Rainbow of Desire techniques to enable a 'Rehearsal for Reality' over the 10 session period.
By the end of July, 5 partner projects will be completed; Partners in the first half of the project are: The Roseland and Truro Educational Trust; Redruth and Camborne Schools; St Paul's Children's Centre and ABBS Primary School; Carefree - fostering independence with children in care; and Poltair Sports College who created a half hour inter-active touring performance piece on the theme of smoking and healthy living.
Common to all sessions and across all partners is the aim that participants would be empowered to take charge of their own situation by considering, in the relative safety of the drama sessions, how to increase thier own self-confidence and esteem and explore their understanding of their circumstances.
To consider the past, in the context of the present, in order to change it for the future.
The original bid was not successful; there was some doubt, apparently, about the uptake from partners and their funding commitment . . . . ???? But the bid was resubmitted and the received almost maximum points from the ACESW assessment. The next 5 partners are in place, but as a couple have not confirmed as yet, if any group out there is interested in being involved in this project they can still register their interest by emailing me on: kathytappin@yahoo.co.uk or kathy@storyworkstheatrecompany.com
