THE PRIMARY FRAMEWORK for LITERACY

AT LAST!!! I have been teaching since 1984 and have spent most of my career as a drama teacher explaining the importance of drama and the arts appearing in any school curriculum. The New Primary Framework places drama at its centre and demands, for the first time, real quality drama teaching in primary schools.

But - you cry – you don’t have a specialist drama teacher; how could you have; and how can you deliver the Strategy effectively?  I, however, am a drama specialist and have been facilitating CPD opportunities for Primary teachers for the last few years through a variety of school-based projects concerned with developing arts-based practice across the primary school curriculum (if you need references / proof / reassurances etc just ask me for the names of some of the Headteachers I have worked with).

Encouraging and developing creative writing through drama (especially for boys); opportunities to speak and to listen too numerous to mention; confidence building through developing performance and presentation skills; and so on.

Not only the above, but the content you could use would be another topic being studied in your curriculum for that term – 2 or more birds with one stone!!  After all, how exactly can you teach any subject without Literacy skills being utilised and developed, so Literacy happens all the time, doesn’t it?

A day’s workshop is £175 (CPD for the class teacher without the need to send them away on a course and also pay for supply cover) – or why not consider using me as supply cover (with a difference) and take the class for a whole day of drama (with TA support to get the benefit of the CPD angle).
