PSHE

Downing, D. Johnson, F. & Kaur, S. (2003) Slough: NFER suggest that: Whether taught for their own intrinsic value, as a medium for the teaching of the wider curriculum, or as an essential element in the life of the community of the primary school, the arts have long been cherished by teachers, parents and children.

The PSHE teaching benefits of drama are clear.  The benefit of the arts in delivering many aspects of a PSHE curriculum have led to schools we have worked with over the past few years specifically requesting using drama to consider their class-based PSHE issues.  Self-esteem, group-building, developing and recognising group dynamics, confidence developing, presentation, non-verbal communication – all these skills and more can be explored and considered through drama games and exercises.  Specific issues such as peer pressure, bullying, transition to Secondary School, relationships and so on, can be debated and examined within the safety of the ‘rehearsal for reality’ that is created by the drama context using the forum theatre practices of Brazilian Practitioner Augusto Boal.

For further information please contact Kathy Tappin on 07973 725 006 or e-mail me via the website www.StoryWorksTheatreCompany.com.  If you require references about me and my work, please ask me for names of Heads I have worked with and who would be happy to supply these.

A day’s workshop is £175 (CPD for the class teacher without the need to send them away on a course and also pay for supply cover) – or why not consider using me as supply cover (with a difference) and take the class for a whole day of drama (with TA support to get the benefit of the CPD angle).
