TRANSITIONS
Drama Workshop in the summer term to explore the anxieties and excitements surrounding the transition from Primary to Secondary School. Using a variety of Drama Skills and Strategies, including Forum Theatre, Role-Play and Improvisation, to consider the issues and practise what to do if particular situations arise.
There would be an emphasis on how non-verbal communication can often tell people what you might not want them to know; and the value of being aware and in control of what you might be saying with your body and facial language. It could be possible to use the drama skills developed in these workshops to contribute towards the end of year Year 6 production, if appropriate. Inviting the drama teacher from the partner Secondary School to drop in on part of the workshop might be a useful way of ensuring their awareness of the work the pupils have been doing in their Primary School drama.
For further information please contact Kathy Tappin on 07973 725 006 or e-mail me via the website www.StoryWorksTheatreCompany.com. If you require references about me and my work, please ask me for names of Headteachers or Heads of Drama I have worked with, who would be happy to supply these. I also previously ran a Transitions Project for John Morey – the former Secondary National Strategy Manager / County Adviser for English and Drama: Services for Children, Young People and Families / Cornwall’s Children’s Services Authority in several feeder schools of two Cornish Secondary Schools in summer 2006.
A day’s workshop is £175 (CPD for the class teacher without the need to send them away on a course and also pay for supply cover) – or why not consider using me as supply cover (with a difference) and take the class for a whole day of drama (with TA support to get the benefit of the CPD angle). I am fully CRB checked and a qualified drama specialist teacher with 26 years experience.
