Alice
The Reckless Wishes of Alice Crantock
Alice was bored,
Too bored even to speak.
Not even to play with her paper beak!
She needed some fun,
But she couldn't find,
Anything to occupy her bored little mind.
When in through the window,
Flew a small fairy,
Alice was stunned and a little bit wary!
The fairy said 'Hi,
And please make a wish!'
Alice instantly said, 'I want a pet – that is my wish!'
‘What kind of pet?’ The fairy retorted,
‘One of a kind,
If it please you – I wouldn’t really mind,
A mouse,
But of course – one that does tricks,
That trapezes and tightrope walks between sticks’
‘Fine’ said the fairy,
One wave of her wand,
And there was a mouse, with hair coloured blond.
It swung and juggled, and rode on a top,
But before long Alice had had her lot.
‘Another wish’ the fairy assumed,
‘Yes, you’re right,
But this time I think I’ll try something light,
I want the sun to shine constantly,
So everyone can sunbathe and have holidays by the sea.’
‘Fine’ said the fairy,
One wave of her wand.
And darkness was banished of which bats were fond.
The sun shone bright for over a week,
And people started moaning from lack of sleep.
‘Oh this is no good!’
Alice exhaled,
‘I do something nice and still people wailed!
I’ll do something different, just for me,
So no – one can complain – they wont see!’
‘Fairy!’ She shouted,
In the window it came,
And so Alice begun - the fairy now tame.
‘My last and final, this is my wish,
I wish I was a little fish!’
The fairy waved,
Her wand and left.
Alice realised she was out of breath.
She was in her room,
No water you see.
Alice was certainly not happy.
For you have to be careful,
Of what you wish.
Alice's cat though, had a lovely dish!
